FIRST EVER TRAINING in South Africa: The FULL 2 day Intensive session with ONE couple.

During a 5 day training, Sue Wintgens, will cover the theoretical underpinnings of EcCT & demonstrate her approach. This offers the therapist the opportunity to see the process unfold in real time.

Guiding a couple through a 2-day Intensive Session is one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding experiences any helping professional can have!

From the moment you welcome the couple into the space you can be relaxed and open because you have a Plan that has proved its value in guiding couples. You can also be curious and excited because through this meeting the exact Path that this couple needs will emerge in the connection of the Space together.

Watch how a couple is invited into their essence and taught powerful new metaphors that invite transformation. Then explore what you have experienced in the afternoons and draw foundational learnings for your own practice. Through this rare mix of teaching and experiencing you will have an embodied picture of the flow of the Intensive Session that will form a solid foundation however you decide to work.

See in action how to guide a couple into experiencing:

  • The wonderful logic involved in the birth of their Survival Suits.
  • Their Survival Dance that informs every conflict and the longing behind it.
  • To name and own their growth edges emerging from their survival knot
  • How to work collaboratively with each unique couple to choose visits.

We will explore how to stay, as the guide, deeply focused, relaxed and confident by understanding:

  • How to use Theory U: grounding ourselves while guiding the couple’s deep encounter.
  • How to work collaboratively with each unique couple to choose visits.
  • How to guide a couple through a Tough Neighbourhood, Amends Visit or Goodbye Ritual.

Watch as Sue reveals the step-by-step road map for entering the most treacherous territory of a couple’s relationship, at the heart of their disconnection. It is what couples experience as their “impasse issue,” where one person’s anguished desperation meets the other person’s dogged resistance, and vice versa.

Sue is an Imago therapist, workshop presenter and EcCT Master practitioner who has worked extensively with Hedy Schleifer. Over the past decade Sue has integrated the methodology and techniques of Imago Relationship Therapy, Appreciative Inquiry, Interpersonal Neurobiology and EcCT into her unique approach when working with couples.

Sue’s practical approach also allows for case supervision and the application of EcCT to your work with couples.

We are deeply indebted to Sue for bringing her experience to South Africa at a time when we need to focus our attention on the value of the relational paradigm. August is an important month for us as we create space to raise awareness of how we can teach couples and families to value relationships. It is time to turn the tide away from violence against women and children, towards meaningful connection and mutual respect for one another.

This five-day training is centered on the “HOW” of unraveling the “SURVIVAL KNOT” of couples.

Hedy Schleifer: Many couples arrive to me after many sessions of Couples Therapy, which has not touched the core of their conflict and disconnection. Couples Therapists are not trained in how to do this.

Out of my own experience of many years as a Couples Therapist and my evolution of Encounter-centered Couples Therapy (EcCT), came an original method for dealing with the core issue of couples. I call the method “UNRAVELING THE SURVIVAL KNOT.

As part of this highly experiential training, Sue will be working in-vivo with a couple, in a fish bowl setting. She will be guiding the couple step by step in opening up the energy caught in their impasse issue, where their deepest need meets the partners’ most powerful defense. Throughout the training, attendees will be exposed to a unique inspiring teaching style. It will create an opportunity to learn about the method of helping couples in the place where they need most help, their core issue, their “SURVIVAL KNOT.” Therapists will leave the training with an expanded grasp of the theoretical, clinical, and philosophical implications of welcoming couples into their deepest intimacies.
